In Fleury-la-Rivière, in the Vallée de la Marne, you will find Johan’s cooperage workshop.
His story begins with a deep passion for the vineyard, a passion he shares with his family, friends, winegrowers and Champagne producers. His love for the terroir led him to choose a profession closely connected to it.
After studying wine chemistry and wood ageing, Johan decided to change direction in early 2022 and establish himself as an independent artisan cooper.
During your visit, you will discover this fascinating craft and learn more about the role of wood in winemaking and ageing. Johan will share his knowledge of the craft, his understanding of the terroir and the process of making a wooden barrel.
For Johan, being a cooper comes down to three things: a passion for the terroir, respect for tradition and looking towards the future.
A visit to the workshop is an opportunity to discover a traditional craft that is closely connected to Champagne and to the people who make its wines.
